Inspired by the ‘Novelty’ & ‘Territory’ bands of the 1920's and 1930's, Cheap Suit Big Tie is tailored to please and entertain.
Diverse instrumentation, vocal harmony and a penchant for rhythm are the threads that bind the bands verve & sound, rooted in nascent jazz & blues, urban
and classy as a well-formed ‘four-in-hand’ on a diamond jacquard.
The musical repertoire and presentation of Cheap Suit Big Tie run deep through jazz & blues tradition, moving seamlessly to original pieces penned by
members of the band - a veritable wardrobe of style and panache. One moment Cheap Suit Big Tie evokes the essence of New Orleans’ “Storyville” then guides
the listeners appreciation through New York’s 42nd Street, Chicago’s Maxwell Street and on... This band definitely cuts a rug. All sharped up, it’s all
jake, Jack... totally in the pocket.
Cheap Suit Big Tie is...
Jim Houston on guitar and lead & harmony vocals, a self-described renaissance man and a passionate musician with a packed valise of original
songs and a love for vintage tunes and threads. The lovely Miss Doris Dumore (Jessica Musterer) on lead & harmony vocals, a warbler of divine note
with a vocal presentation somewhere between Julie Andrews and Blossom Dearie.
On upright bass and harmony vocals, Joe Samorodin
arpeggiates like a fresh, Fraser Valley breeze. Mr. Brian Lohnes on banjo-ukulele, a rare sonic
palette that centers the bands sound in vintage jazz but also counterpoints a rhythm all his own. On tenor, alto and soprano saxophones,
Mike Spindloe finds a groove and a comfort zone on all styles from swing, blues, samba & tango - high ’n low, mean ‘n sweet. |
